Elise stared after the girl until her gaze shifted to Oliver who seemed to stand frozen in the middle of the restaurant. Without hesitation, Elise stood up and went over to Oliver, reaching up to touch her fingertips to his masked face, tilting his head down to look at her. She could sense his discomfort from across the room even upon seeing the girl, she wanted to dispel it as soon as possible.

"Hey." She said to him, offering a small smile to him.

Oliver looked at her for a moment as he took a deep breath. "...Did she bother you?" he asked quietly.

Elise shook her head.

"No...but it looks like she bothered you." She said, taking a beat before lowering her hands down to rest at his wrists, giving them a gentle squeeze. "Can we sit down?"

Oliver flushed with some embarrassment at being caught so upset but gave a nod and went to carry their stuff over to the booth she had been at. "...Did... did she ah, say anything to you?"

Elise followed and slid back into her spot in the booth, settling her hands on her lap though they itched to reach out for Oliver again to salve his obvious distress.

"She did...but I'd rather hear your side of things." Elise said.

Oliver sat back down, putting her drink and food in front of her and then settled his hands in his lap, fidgeting uneasily. "Shes uh, she's my ex."

“I see…and I take it, things didn’t end so good with you guys?” Elise ventured an ask. She was hopeful Oliver would explain his reaction to her, but she also didn’t want to press him so much he became uncomfortable. She wanted his words to come from him.

"Ah... no." Oliver sighed and then took a deep breath. "So. We started dating around when I signed on with the group. She uh... she liked running with rougher crowds. Tough guys, like my whole persona and stuff like that." he said, not making eye contact as he started tearing off pieces of his own croissant.

"My agent told me to stick around with her, that it was good for building the image but... she got into drugs. And then she got caught and she... framed me for it. Agent told me not to fight back with it, that I didn't really have a say in it because I had no proof so... he just used it as more publicity when I got arrested."

Oliver frowned, smushing a piece of the pastry between his fingers anxiously. "She told press and all that shit that she was some innocent girl, dating a bad guy and how I always tried to pressure her into that stuff. Totally trashed my name."

Elise’s brows pinched together as she listened to the whole of Oliver’s story. She of course had been told by her brothers that he had a reputation, she even knew that he’d had some run ins with Tanner in his true line of work as an officer, but this was… had Tanner been under the wrong impression the whole time?

“Is that when you crossed patches with Haneul? When…when you got arrested?” She asked.

Oliver nodded with a frown. ".. Uh well, that.. and a couple of my own stupid stunts but nothing like that... a little too drunk walking home once and when I was a good few years younger, I was really into street art so.. yknow.. tagging and stuff."

Elise didn’t think her brother would have been that opposed to her associating with Oliver for petty crimes, after all, it wasn’t like he and Coda abstained from drinking now and then or did stupid things for that matter. She assumed that it was more about Tanner hearing the other side of Oliver’s story and not his own. That, paired with rumors and the other small things, it made sense he’d come to have a negative assumption about Oliver.

“I see,” she nodded and paused a moment before looking across the table at Oliver, reaching a hand across then. “Well…for what it’s worth, I believe that you’re being honest with me, so don’t worry about what she had to say. I’m not worried about it.” She offered a reassuring smile.

Oliver put his hand up too after a little hesitation, just not sure thats what she was going for. "...Really? I... I get it if so, I mean..."

As soon as she could, Elise curled her hand into Oliver's, pressing palm to palm and locking fingers together. She gave it a squeeze and let her smile soften.

"Really really." She insisted.

Oliver smiled softer, shoulders relaxing slowly as he gave her hand a gentle little squeeze. "...Thank you."

"You don't need to thank me. I trust you, Oliver" Elise said, giving a little bob of her head. "So trust me, too. Tell me if there are things you're worried about, if you are unsure, if you're happy or if you're sad. Tell me everything, okay?"
