For Shelbyville High, it was just really another typical day. The clique's were being their usual stuffy selves, kids were loud and rowdy, it was sunny and cheerful and people were just excited about summer break coming up soon.

Well, most people at least. Truth be told, Ian liked school. He liked being able to get away and do something that felt worth while, despite the way everyone went out of their way to move away from him when he headed down the hall and despite the way he didn't really have many friends.

It didn't bother him, not that much anyhow. He wasn't that bad of a kid, he thought at least, although his mom thought he was pretty shitty sometimes and people spread rumours around about him all the time. And he wasn't an angry person- well, sort've. But he found ways to direct that anger at one single point.

And people really had spread their rumours. "Oh, he's in a gang" or "Oh, he's a major bully" and "have you seen the cuts and bruises on him? He's a thug." Ian knew he looked like his Dad, who his mom told him was a 'thug' (though she hadn't ever gone into details) but he wasn't a thug. He didn't think at least.

So when he headed through the school halls to get to the cafeteria for lunch, it didn't even phase him when people made their way past him with a fair amount of space between him and them.

Yeah, okay, in all fairness he looked intimidating. He had a bitch face that could compete with the Fitz' kids themselves, he had his biker boots and jacket and the whole "leave me the fuck alone" aura but that wasn't him at all- not even after having a shitty fight with his mom that morning before heading off to school.

"Do you think your momma's going to let you go camping with us this weekend? Daddy said he's going to loan us all the tents and everything and uncle Dixie was going to loan Digby his car even since him and auntie Dana are going out of town again."

Estella was walking along with her cousin, Tessa, cutting through the hallways and trying to make their way to the lunch hall. Tessa had her own lunch packed as always, but Estella was wanting to get to the lunch hall to pick out a lunch before everything good was gone considering her mom didn't get up in time to pack her a lunch, having been as tired as she was from her new job.

Estella had grown up to be every bit as beautiful as her mother with hints of her father's "ugly mug" (as her uncles playfully called it) here and there. Unlike her cousins, she wasn't entirely rowdy at school or in public, though, it was no secret that she had the same fire in her as both her mother and father as well as the same propensity to act on it like the rest of the Fitz clan.

"Mm, I don't know, Tess. Mama needs some help this weekend since my tios and tia are coming into town next week." Estella said as they approached the stairwell leading to the first floor of the school building. They headed down when Tessa gave a loud exhale.

"Estella, c'moooooon! It'll be so fun!" Tessa said, reaching out to give a playful, but surprisingly (not really) slap at Estella's back, which...sent her cousin stumbling with a startled yelp. "Oh J-Jesus! Stella!"

Ian frowned as he made his way through the lunch rush and paused when he heard a yelp and a holler, blinking as he looked over to his left to see some girl stumbling and falling towards his direction. Without second thought, his hands shot out to catch her from falling on her face and steady her out. "Woah. You okay?"

"OhthankyouJesus." Estella exhaled a panicked little breath as she was caught. She nodded at her "savior", offering a little thank you before turning to Tessa and unleashing a fervent stream of Spanish curses, ending on a "puta", which only earned laughter and a half-hearted apology from her cousin. Estella frowned before turning her back on Tessa and turning back to the boy. "Sorry, and, um, thanks for catching me."

Ian cocked an eyebrow at the stream of spanish, recognizing a few words here and there, especially 'puta' and gave her a nod. "Yeah, no problem." he said, stepping back to continue on his trek to the lunch room, figuring that was that.

"Wow...he's talkative." Tessa made a slight face.

Meanwhile, Estella simply blinked in surprise at the sheer lack of, well, interaction (not nearly as rude as her cousin). She thought maybe her gratitude wasn't enough and she promptly hurried after the boy.

"I, um, I'm Estella, and, seriously, I mean it, thank you-can I get your name?" Estella asked.

Ian blinked when he heard the girl following him, surprised that she would and even more so that she seemed to be pushing to talk to him. Wanting his name even. He turned then, giving her another blink. "Oh. Uh. It's fine- really- uh, Ian." he said, honestly unbearably shy.

"Ian? That's a nice name." Estella said, smiling a bit out of relief when she felt her apology was better received. She extended her hand out to Ian. "It's nice to meet you."

Ian ears pinkened a little as he reached out and shook her hand, gently. "Oh. Nice to meet you too. Are you uh- you alright? Not hurt?"

"No, I'm fine thanks to you, aaaaand no thanks to someone else." Estella through a look over her shoulder at Tessa, who was still snickering at the bottom of the stairs now.

Ian gave a little smile. "Well uhm, that's good." he nodded, brows furrowing slightly when someone jolted him as they pushed by and turned to look at them, raising an eyebrow as they shied away mostly from his bitch face.

Estella cocked a brow as she watched the other teen shuffle by and meekly shy away from Ian.

"Do you...know them?" She asked.

Ian shook his head and looked back at her, reaching up to push some loose strands from his 'man bun' out of his face. "No. Do you?" he asked, wanting to be polite and sociable.

"Well, I mean, as much as you can know someone from class, I guess. I have chemistry with him second period." Estella explained with a little nod. "I thought maybe...I don't know you had problems with them with the way he kinda...acted."

"Oh, uh, no." Ian frowned, glancing back after the kid again. "Never spoke to him before." he admitted and then looked back down at Estella. "Uh, I'm heading to the cafeteria if you guys wanna.." he offered, against not wanting to be rude by dismissing himself but he was starving from skipping breakfast.
