Faye hummed a tune under her breath as she headed up to her house, having walked back home from work, hugging her jacket around herself more as she went to open the gate to her house, glancing over towards Rudy's house.
Rudy was the man who lived next to her, who did some sort've police work. What exactly, she wasn't sure and she didn't want to be rude and ask. She found their...relationship of sorts, exciting, romantic almost and she was content with it. And admittedly, a little impatient. She just wanted for him to ask her to go see a movie or get dinner with him or something.
She sighed as she gave a little smile to herself and shook her head, scolding herself for daydreaming as she opened the gate.
Rudy was a top notch investigator for the city police, brilliant in many aspects and able to solve just about any crime. This being said, Rudy was also a blessed idiot when it came to the girl next door, Faye. He'd met her the first day he'd moved in earlier the year before and was almost instantly knocked off his feet by everything about her. She was kind, beautiful, and had the most wonderful laugh he had ever heard. He admired her something awful, but was absolutely clueless how to approach her about the prospect of dating.
So here they were: not going steady.
He'd just gotten off a long shift and dozed off in his armchair in the living room, the dull hum of the radio having lulled him to sleep. The clock in the corner of the room went off and he let out a sharp inhale, opening his eyes to check the time. He pursed his lips slightly and moved to get up to poke his head out the window. Crime had been on the increase in town lately and it was certainly his duty to serve and protect everyone, but he made sure to keep an eye out for Faye especially. She didn't know, of course, but he made sure to check and make sure her lights were on, making sure she'd made it home safe, every night. If he wasn't so beat by the end of the day, he probably would have went to her work and offered to walk her home.
Or was that weird? He wasn't sure.
Faye hadn't made it into the house yet, but Rudy could see her familiar frame entering the yard through the gate. He gave a little quirk of a smile and hurriedly went to the kitchen to grab the bag from the garbage tin to "take out the trash" (though the bag wasn't nearly full). He hurried outside, hoping to catch Faye in time.
Faye glanced when she heard the noise of the front door and footsteps and immediately smiled, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear and fixing the skirt of her waitress outfit. "Hi, Rudy." she greeted.
"Oh, well, you know, working those hard cases'll do that to you." Rudy chuckled, reaching up to scratch at the back of his neck. "Listen, Faye, if you need someone to walk you home at night, you know I could pick you up from the joint. It's gettin' awfully bad in town."
