| Rudy hung up, giving a little airy sigh before getting up, collecting some files from his desk, and going over to his partner's desk to start discussing some of the finer points of their investigation. |

Faye had a frustrating night at the diner, to say the least. The men who had came in for dinner were all very rude, grabby and loud. And it took Faye yelling and rejecting the big man of the group for them all to shut up.
Even if it made the hair on the back of her neck stand up with how silent he was and how he just kept staring at her. They left when it was closing time and Faye cleaned up with Mae and then bid her goodnight before heading out and going to walk home, pulling her jacket on as she did.
The hair on the back of her neck was still standing and god, she wished Rudy had been able to walk her home. She especially wished he could've when she heard footsteps behind her, getting closer.
She glanced back, squinting in the dark before realizing it was the men before and the big one, the one who had been grabbing her and trying to pull her down into the booth with him, looked pissed.
She froze up for just a second before going to hurry through an alley, figuring she could cut him off and hide but before she even realized, he was there and he had his hands on her.
There wasn't much she could remember other than screaming, begging and pleading and then not being able to breath, hands tight around her neck and the world tunneling around her as she clawed up at the face above her, leaving deep scratches on the mans cheek.
She struggled and fought until she just didn't have the strength and the next thing she knew, she was waking up in the backyard of Rudy's house, dazed and confused and not remembering anything that had happened. |

Rudy had stayed at the station longer than expected and when he was finally headed home, he noted that everyone else was leaving the station in a hurry as well. He chalked it up to coincidence and proceeded to load up in his car and head home.
What wasn't a coincidence was that everyone who'd left the office...was parked just a few streets shy of his house. Tape had been put up and Rudy couldn't help but gawk a bit as he drove by. |

| Rudy's partner, Lawrence, glanced over when he heard the car from where he was standing and pursed his lips grimly, waving him over to park as he moved from his spot in the crowd. |

Rudy furrowed his brows, but complied by parking his car not too far from the taped off scene. He climbed out of the car and huddled in his coat as he proceeded over.
"Larry, what's going on?" He asked. |

No, no, no, no.
Rudy could hear the blood in his ears as he came up on the scene, shaking Lawrence off the whole way. He could see the other officers looking around the scene and taking pictures with their flashbulb cameras. He could see a sheet covering up what he could only assume was the body.
He could see how whoever was under the sheet was just Faye-sized.
He felt his breath hitch as froze only a moment before hurrying forward.
"No...no...don't tell me...don't tell me." He murmured as he went over to the sheet. |
