“Do...um...you don’t have to, but...do you want to come over? For dinner maybe? You can see her and we can talk...you don’t have to though. It’s okay if you don’t want to.” Mi Na said, her words sputtering a bit towards the end.

Tanner messed with his running shorts anxiously. "Yeah, yeah, that sounds fine. Um. Around what time?"

“Around five? Is that okay? We usually have dinner early so she gets to bed on time. We have a pretty strict schedule for her.” Mi Na explained, glancing up when she heard Hei Ran’s feet slapping on the hardwood floor.

“Eomma! Come watch!” She hollered.

“In a second, Hei Ran.” Mi Na replied before listening for Tanner’s response.

"Mm, yeah, that sounds good." Tanner said, hesitating. "Will your parents be there?"

Na assured. She was glad her father was back home already because if he knew she was talking to Tanner again, he’d surely have a conniption.

Tanner closed his eyes briefly in relief. "Okay, just curious. I'll be there. Um, can you text me the address?"

“I’ll send it to you.” Mi Na nodded. “Um...I’ll see you soon then.” She said.

"Um, yeah, see you soon." Tanner said uncertainly before going to hang up.

Tanner took a deep breath before knocking on Mi Na's door, a bowl of his auntie's kimchi in hand and still dressed in his running outfit. He was too busy and anxious to really go home after the call so he just waited around till it was time to drive to Mi Na's.

Mi Na had hurriedly put together some sides for dinner, but had foregone actually cooking for ordering in some chicken. She hadn’t had the chance to change, but that never stopped her from being beautiful in a sort of effortless way. Her hair was in a messy bun and a few strategic strands fell in her face. Her cheeks were warm and pink from all her rushing around, but that only made her look softer.

Hei Ran was the only thing in the apartment that looked put together as Mi Na had washed and dressed her up. Her hair was just long enough to be pulled into a high ponytail, though it was still short enough to stick up like paintbrush strands.

While Mi Na was rushing to get the table set, Hei Ran was contentedly playing with her stuffed animals in the living room. She didn’t know or understand who was coming over, but she knew that someone was coming and that had her mom in a frenzy, so she’d mind her own.

Tanner glanced down at himself with a grimace, wishing he had taken the chance to change but he had at least cleaned up a little at his auntie's. He took another deep breath and then gave a firm knock at the door, waiting.

Mi Na looked up when she heard the knock and set down the last of the side dishes before reaching up to brush some hair out of her face. She hoped that it was just the delivery man and not Tanner. Maybe she would get some time to change and get ready herself before he showed up.

She went to the door and answered, feeling her heart give a little jump when it was in fact Tanner, Tanner I’m running shorts no less.

“Oh, hi, um, come in.” She stepped out of the way and immediately went diving in a box on a nearby table in the entryway where she retrieved a pair of house slippers for Tanner. She set them on the floor for him. “I’m glad you found us. It’s an easy neighborhood to get lost in.”

"It um, it took me a moment but I figured it out." Tanner said, going to take off his shoes after stepping in and step into the slippers with a quiet thank you.

As soon as Hei Ran heard a voice that wasn’t her mother’s, she trotted over to the entryway and beamed when she saw Tanner.

“Ajusshi!” She chirped, hurrying over.

Mi Na gave a faint, amused smile.

“Hei Ran, he isn’t old enough to be an ajusshi.” She explained.

“Oppa?” Hei Ran asked them, earning a sputtered giggle from Mi Na.

“Not quote that either.” She said before looking to Tanner. “Maybe...we will talk later about what you should call him. Let’s go sit down. Dinner should be here soon.”

Tanner gave a very small faint smile. His 'smiles' were still never quite the same in the past few years. "Um, thank you for having me over."
