Harper grabbed onto his hand tightly and pushed her shirt up so the doctor could get to her rather small stomach.
"You're a lot smaller than the last pregnancy." The doctor noted but smiled. "But that's normal. Every pregnancy has their differences." she reassured when Harper looked very anxious and went to get the ultrasound machine all set up and ready to go. |

| "I'm sure you'll blow right up, Harp." Griffith assured, offering a little smile of his own as he took Harper's hand and raised it to his lips, pressing a small kiss to her knuckles. |

Harper took a trembling breath and forced herself to stay calm when the doctor put the ultrasound gel on and put the probe to her stomach, going to try and find the baby.
"Hm.." the doctor frowned after a few minutes. |

Griffith stared at the screen, trying to find hints of his and Harper's baby. When he could find nothing, moreover, realized the silence that came with the nothingness, he paled and looked to the doctor.
"Where....w-where is the baby?" He asked, worried. |

"..W-where is the baby?" Harper repeated quickly, staring at the screen in horror. "Why.. why can't I hear the baby?"
The doctor stared at the screen intently, moving the probe around until there was a small mass. "Well... I... the reason you cannot hear the baby is... I believe it doesn't have a heartbeat." the doctor said carefully.
"..N-No, no, you're w-wrong, i-it has to!" |

| Griffith felt as if he were going to be sick suddenly. He stared in horror at the screen, at the teeny tiny mass that he presumed was his and Harper's baby, stared as it did nothing. |

The doctor grimaced at Harper's panicked shouting and instant crying, moving the probe around again to check once more. "Wait, wait," she said quickly. "There's.. a little flutter, right there." she pointed at the small movement. "But it IS very weak..." she warned.
"Bu-but it's A-ALIVE?" Harper asked desperately. |

The doctor gave a little sigh and checked just one more time before going to pull the probe away. "Well... it could mean they're developing very slowly... but... it could also mean that you should prepare for the worst." she said as gently as she could. "We'll do another ultrasound in a few weeks granted everything... is alright and see if the heartbeat has strengthened."
"B-But.. but.." Harper stared at her. |

Griffith felt his jaw trembling and tears buliding up in his eyes all over again.
A couple of weeks.
He raised Harper's hand up to his lips with his own quivering grasp, placing his lips to her knuckles in an attempt to offer his "assurances", although...he was just as worried and upset as her, surely. |

Harper tried to hold back crying, her jaw and well, her entire body trembling really. "O-okay. Okay." she said quietly, letting the doctor clean up her stomach.
The doctor nodded and pursed her lips. "Otherwise, I think we're done for today." she said gently. "When you're ready, just go up to the front desk and get the appointment ready, alright?" she said softly still. |
