Elise let out a little "oof" as she was helped up. She was only a handful of months along in her pregnancy, so she could only imagine how much she would be struggling for the rest of her pregnancy, perhaps even as soon as a few weeks from now. She took Oliver's hand and made her way over to the kitchen, letting it go once they reached the bar.
"I'll make us soondubu tonight and I can make us fried rice for lunch tomorrow." She explained as she proceeded into the kitchen, rolling up her sleeves as she made her way to the sink to wash her hands.
The last few months had felt like a blur to Elise, so much so that sometimes she felt like her head was spinning at the sheer velocity at which everything was changing.
Despite having taken a step back from school, Elise had remained busy with work at both of her jobs up until recently when she decided to resign from her job at the neighborhood grocer's as it became harder to keep up with in recent weeks due to her pregnancy, which, by all accounts, was also going by at lightspeed. It felt like she had only just found out she was pregnant a few weeks ago, but in a flash, weeks and then months had gone by and her belly had swollen up to astronomical proportions (though Oliver insisted she was not as nearly as big as she felt). Her and Oliver's baby had remained perfectly healthy throughout her pregnancy and she'd had very few complications beyond the typical discomfort of carrying a large baby.
Speaking of large babies, her first "baby", Oliver, had been as busy as ever, still working on his final project with his band before he'd officially retire from show business. At first, it had left him very little time with Elise, though he'd diligently gone to all her big appointments and tried to go to the more lax ones as often as he could, but after about two months of almost no one on one time beyond that, he'd finally asked her about getting a place of their own.
Elise had happily agreed to the proposition, of course, but she'd thought it would take at least a month or two before they'd find a place they liked, not the two weeks it had actually taken to find a cute little family home not too far from where Coda and Soo Mi's family lived. It was tucked away in a quiet neighborhood adjacent to Coda and Soo Mi and boasted walkable shopping at little mom and pop stores and parks throughout that Elise could imagine she and Oliver taking their baby to as they grew older. The house itself was older, but not worn down. It was clearly loved by the family that had lived their before and Elise was sure they would leave their little marks of love in time as well. All it took was one visit and one glance at the would-be nursery before they were sold. They moved in just two weeks later.
A month or so had passed since then and while the rest of the house was mostly settled, they had begun to properly nest as their baby's due date drew closer and closer. Oliver was still busy with his final project with the band, but he still came home every day and helped do whatever it was that needed to get done. Currently, it was a lot of laundry as they had bought plenty of clothes themselves, but also received hand-me-downs from her brother's kids and been gifted plenty more from other family and friends.
Elise had sent Oliver downstairs to their laundry room to toss in another load and collect the previous load from the dryer while she sat on their bed folding the little clothes, using her belly as a folding bench. Oliver had braided her hair down her back (just like she had taught him) and they'd put on matching sheet masks while they worked. She was wearing one of his shirts that Oliver had stretched out just so it would comfortably fit her round stomach and a pair of Christmas sweats that were definitely out of season.
"-and then your halmoeni and haraboeji will be here around your birthday so they can take care of you and eomma. They can't wait to meet you, my sweet little deok." Elise smiled as she spoke to her belly. She'd read that at this point in the pregnancy, the baby could definitely hear when you spoke, so she did so often, and always refered to them as her and Oliver's little rice cake, their deok.
