It'd been about three years since it all began, or, rather, it all ended.

No one was quite sure where the outbreak began - some said it was the government implementing some sort of population control gone awry, some said it was some random disease mutation, some even said it all started from one bad gas station sandwich - but what everyone was sure of was how quickly everything went to shit.

A handful of days in, people began looting. A few days after that, people turned to violence. Another day later, martial law was implemented. Just a few few weeks later, the entire United States government collapsed and the nation itself turned into a wasteland constructed of fear and violence where only few could survive and even fewer could thrive between Biters and other people.

The Fitz siblings were of the few who thrived.

They lost their parents rather early into the outbreak, but with the eldest of the four siblings, Lawson Fitz, putting the weight of their parents' role onto his own shoulders, they were able to make it much farther than most, maybe even further than their parents could have gotten them. He had made sure they all were taken care of, made sure they all knew how to take care of themselves. He taught them basic survival skills, he taught them to hunt and scavenge, and he taught them to be merciless, which was why the Fitz siblings were a well recognized tour du force.

Dixon Fitz, the youngest brother, had scoped out another group not too long ago and Lawson had sent out Griffith, the middle brother, and Coco Fitz, the youngest and only sister, to go conduct a "trade" with the group, though no one really knew if any trading would really occur.

Griffith had parked their Franken-jeep in the woods nearby, hiding it with some fallen brush, and he and Coco marched their way up to the "colony" with little more than their guns and other assorted weapons, and a crate of non-perishables meant for trading. Lawson had sent out his more fierce younger brother simply because he knew that out of all his siblings he'd be the most merciless when it came to potential violence and he'd sent his sister because while she didn't look as mean as any of her brothers, she was by no means someone easily knocked around.

Currently, she carried the crate, while Griffith approached the gate protecting the colony, giving it a hardy bang as she stood back.

A large man with a very wide scar from his forehead down to mid cheek and a greasy ponytail, peered down from a watch tower next to the gate, adjusting his rifle as he eyed the duo. "Whats your business at the Pitt?" he called, adjusting the tobacco in his lip.

Even in the down fall of the world within three years, Darcy had never wanted to give up and just die. Him and his sister were back to back, merciless and able to keep themselves going. They had been on the way to a group that they'd heard about over radio, survivors looking for others to join in numbers.

But, Harper and him had gotten stuck in a building and surrounded by Biters and just went they thought someone had come to help them, it had ended up being a raider scout with friends coming up quick behind him. They had ran and well, he had helped Harper get away despite all her yelling for him to just go but he'd gotten caught himself and well... here he was now.

Stuck digging farms and repairing and putting up more and more defenses until his fingers felt like they were going to break off, until his arms felt like lead and he literally would go and collapse on the shitty cot of a bed they gave him.

"We're here to trade." Griffith responded simply.

Coco raised the tote of nonperishables for emphasis.

"Open the box." The man ordered, gun still trained.

"It's kind of heavy for me, mister." Coco clucked her tongue, trying to feign innocence. "Can't you just let us in?"

"Orders are orders." He spit on the ground below, raising the gun a little more. "Open the box or back out."

Griffith narrowed his eyes a bit at the gesture, resisting the urge to raise his own gun almost as much as Coco was resisting the urge to roll her eyes at the man.

She set the tote down and popped open the lid, tilting it for the man to see the nonthreatening cargo inside.

The man eyed the items before putting his gun a little lower and yelled over into the base. "Traders comin' in, two of 'em! One man, one bitch." he said, making it evident that this wasn't exactly a group with equal respect or care.

The gate opened, several cards ready to escort Griffith and Coco to the 'cargo overseer' for the group.

Both Coco and Griffith resisted the urge to raise their guns at the negative title and they pressed on instead. Griffith went to relieve his sister of the tote, letting her go in in front of him as they were urged on.

They went to escort Griffith and Coco through towards the back, passing by tired looking women of various ages with their babies at one set up. The women all stared at them passing, giving Coco an anxious and almost sympathetic look.

They passed by the farming fields, where men with guns were standing near by to make sure none of their 'cargo' ran off. They went by several other set ups before finally coming to the warehouse near the back and near 'Hugo's' base camp. Hugo was the 'man of the camp', so to speak and was currently overseeing the workers unload and reload things for the night and for scouters trips.

Hugo wasn't the typical big rugged bastard you'd expect but a main in a pinstripe suit with dark slicked back hair and a snide smile with several chipped teeth and with several other big rugged bastards standing near him as 'guards', as though he was really some big deal.

Darcy, unfortunately today was one of the ones unloading. He looked as worn out as his clothes, dirty from the rough work and all in all, a tad hollowed out and flattened by the heat.

"Good lord, Griff, this is awful." Coco muttered as she noted all the people they walked passed.

"Coco, everything is awful." Griff murmured back.

Bo, the trade boss looked up tiredly as the guards headed over with the Fitz siblings. "Afternoon. What're you looking to trade? Easy trip here, I hope." he said, trying to sound civil as possible.

"We're looking for ammunition, as much as your lot can part with for two weeks worth of nonperishables." Griffith explained.

In the meantime, Coco had taken to looking towards the workers, frowning sympathetically as she did so.

"Mm, let me see what we can do." Bo said and went to disappear into the warehouse building behind him.

Darcy lefted another sack of rice and tossed it into the transport truck before leaning against it, chest heaving to catch his breath, drenched in sweat and beyond thirsty. He reached up to push his hair back, which had gotten quite long since being separated from his sister and then adjusted his rather busted up glasses, vaguely glancing Coco's way.

As Griffith hovered near the tote, Coco strayed a few feet away, glancing up when she felt someone's gaze on her.

Her brow furrowed even sadder when she saw a young man looking worse for wear. He was scraggly looking, definitely a laborer or a slave from the look, and very...sad and exhausted looking, more so than many of the other people she'd seen.

She held his gaze for a moment before turning to Griff, reaching to tug at his jacket sleeve.

"Griff...that boy over there. He doesn't look great." She murmured to him.

Griff looked up and frowned as well.

"I mean...you're right, but what about it?" He said, looking down just in time to see a look from Coco. A look. "Oh Coco...no. No. No." He shook his head.

"We hvae to do something." Coco said.
