Tanner glanced around as he looked for something somewhat decent for a meal for lunch. He had his father rambling in one ear on his phone, which he was always happy to hear from his dad but it had been a rough long day at work so far and it was only half way through. "Mm, mhm." he responded, trying to sound enthusiastic as he picked up a pre-made dish to look over what was in it, lips pursed in disinterest.

He was quieter if that was possible, more withdrawn into himself since everything had happened. He refused to talk to much of anyone except for his parents, grandparents, sister and his brother, when he saw him since Coda had his little family going for him which was amazing in Tanner's opinion.

But Tanner just didn't feel like bonding with anyone much anymore. He did his work, went to the gym, called his family to check in because he knew they were worried and went home and had dinner. But losing Mi Na had zapped him, really. He was colder at work, sharper with people and angrier with himself and in general. Though, work gave him his only strong purpose.

Which is why he was wanting to get lunch, whatever it may be and get back to it quickly.

The past few years had not been easy on Mi Na, not since everything with Tanner, not since he left her something more than just heartache.

She found out shortly after Tanner moved to the United States that she was pregnant. She hadn’t nearly gotten over the initial heartbreak of the situation and was hardly ready to contend with the idea of having a baby on her own, but she also didn’t want to deal with reaching out to Tanner and perhaps coming off as desperate or conniving if he were to suspect she was lying just to keep him. So she stiffened her lip and decided to endure it.

She had a beautiful little girl, Hei Ran, who looked more and more like herself, thankfully, everyday. In fact, she could have been Mi Na’s doppelgänger if it hadn’t been for her startling blue eyes.

It wasn’t easy raising a baby on her own, even if she did have her family’s support when she moved out of Seoul, but things felt right now and she felt like she could branch out on her own again with little Hei Ran.

But, Hei Ran wouldn’t make THAT easy either as it was their first day in Seoul and during a trip to the market, they’d been separated. While Mi Na ran down the streets, desperately calling for her daughter, Hei Ran found herself in a little store and was simpering for her eomma anf rubbing hard at her face.

“E-e-eommaaa!” She whined, looking around the store hoping to find Mi Na.

The storekeep noticed her and then glanced to Tanner still musing over his good options.

“Yaaa, officer, I think this little one is lost.” He flapped a hand at Tanner.

Tanner glanced up tiredly, hoping it wasn't him and some other officer. He pursed his lips a little when he realized, it was in fact towards him and glanced at the little girl, brows furrowing in concern then. She was so little and distraught. He put the container down as he spoke to his father in English. "I gotta go, tell you later." he said before hanging up after a quick love you bye and then headed over to the little girl, speaking in Korean again. "Little girl, are you alright?"

Hei Ran turned to face the man, her whole face pulled into a sad little frown.

“Ajusshi (uncle, or something you call a middle aged man...no one wants to be called it lmao), my e-eomma!” She sobbed at the man who approached her.

Tanner pursed his lips at the name but crouched in front of her. "Don't cry, it's alright. I'm a police officer, I'll help you find her, okay?"

Hei Ran sniveled and gulped at air as she tried to compose herself, though that was a lot to ask of a three year old.

“M-hic-kay.” She managed.

"Now, what is your Eomma wearing today?" Tanner asked, reaching over to wipe at her cheeks for her gently. There was something SO familiar about the child that it made him faintly uneasy.

“A yellow dress. She had a hat on.” Hei Ran tried to recall. She pointed to her feet. “She had pointy shoes on.”

"Okay. Do you know her name?" Tanner asked, standing up and offering out his hand to her.

“Eomma.” Hei Ran nodded, confident of her answer. Whenever her grandpa or grandma talked about Mi Na, they just called her “eomma” for Hei Ran’s sake. She took the officer’s hand while using the other to lightly pull at her earlobe.

"Right, of course... and what is your name?" Tanner tried, glancing as she tugged at her ear, feeling uneasy prickles up the back of his neck which he was quick to ignore.

Tanner grimaced at the name again. "Officer Hanuel." he told her as he went to walk around the store with her, looking around for the woman she had explained.

“Like the sky.” Hei Ran compared mostly for herself. She looked up at Tanner and then pointed at her eyes. “You have sky eyes like me too.” She observed.

Tanner felt more prickles up his back and his neck. "Mm, I do. You're very lucky, they're not common to have. Do you see your Eomma at all?"
