It'd been a long month, to say otherwise would be a vastly inaccurate statement. Between finally moving on passed the grieving process of having lost Lawson, surviving additional assaults from Kasper himself as well as his goons, and getting at least ONE of them in jail for the time being... it was, in Griffith's words, "fuckin' exhausting".

But things were starting to look up for the Fitz family.

It had been awhile since they decided they were actually going to move back home, however, due to minor kinks and issues, they'd decided to up the ante and move earlier. Of course, initially, this didn't settle well with some members of the family, namely Dixon, however, after having a sit down with and explaining the dire nature of their situation, Griffith managed to swaying everyone into agreeing to the hasty move.

While Griff spent his time getting their housing and job situation settled, Harper had dealt with the task of getting the boys' remaining schoolwork settled with their current school as well as getting their fall registration for their new school all lined up. Flora had taken care of most of the packing of the house, along with the help of some of the boys from the gang (some of who had even been staying at the house on and off to make sure Ripley would stay away).

Despite the fact everything was done without a hitch, at the end of it all, there was still a great deal of sadness having to leave town. Part of Griffith felt defeated, knowing he'd been successfully run out, however, he wasn't willing to risk his family anymore than he already had. Dixon still didn't want to go back to his childhood home, he'd voiced his protest the whole time, however, he also knew it was for the good of the family. Flora.... Flora didn't want to leave at all. Their home had been the same home she'd shared with Lawson since she was eighteen, ever since their wedding day. It was the house she loved him in, began their family in, it was theirs, so she was sad to leave, but she knew it was time to say goodbye.

After a day and a half of travelling, having had to stop at motel halfway to their destination to sleep as well as plenty of times for car sickness (as Flora and Griff were the only drivers, driving two separate vehicles), they finally came up on the city limits, just as the morning sun was beginning to crest.

Griffith took a deep breath, almost not believing he was back, that THEY were all back here, and clutched tight at the steering wheel.

They were home.

He drove through town, making little nostalgic notes to himself. They passed a park where Lawson would take him and Dixon when their parents left him in charge, and he noted the large sycamore tree Lawson had to hoist him out of once or twice was still standing. The baseball field where their dad had taught them all how to play had gotten a nice face-lift. There were several small Mom and Pop businesses that he could remember going to as a boy still standing. It almost felt like nothing had really changed since they left... that was nice.

He continued driving through town, simply taking in the old-new sights, before tensing up when they came up on it... Dixie's, their dad's auto body shop. He'd saved up from the time Lawson was born to open up his own shop, which he successfully did the same year Dixon was born. He'd planned to run it with his boys one day, hand it down to them when he retired, but he never got to do that, so, there it sat abandoned. It wasn't in too rough of shape, but abandoned nonetheless. Griffith bit at his lip as he turned down that same road, only to turn right into a long driveway that lead up to an large house sitting on a fat of over-grown land that all at once was home again.

The driveway was shaded by overgrown Sycamore trees, and under that shade, sprawling farther onto the property even, was lush, overgrown grass Griffith could remember having to cut every Monday after school (their dad, Lawson, and him would each take a push mower and clean up the yard). He drove passed a patch of dirt that used to be his mom's little garden where she had once tried to grow their own vegetables, but failed miserably so she converted it to a flower garden. There were sparse remnants of the flower bed in the way of wild flowers.

In the middle of this fat of land was a large, not quite dilapidated house. The house, once white, looked dirty after years of neglect, however, unexpectedly, it looked to be in one piece regardless. Every window pane was still in tact, the door showed no sign of attempted intrusion. And while the porch swing was busted, sitting atop a pile of beer cans, presumably from teenagers, it was decidedly an easy fix.

Hopefully the inside was just as easy to fix.

Griffith took another deep breath as he eased onto the brake, parking the moving truck he and Harper had been riding at the side of the house.

"We're here..." He said quietly.

Harper opened her eyes from where she had been resting on and off against the door and moved slightly to sit up properly and peer out the window at the house, deciding it was nice. To her it was one of the nicest she'd seen. But that wasn't her main focus right then really.

She reached over to try and take one of Griffith's hands, wanting immediately to comfort him. "Hey.. you alright?" she asked quietly, feeling that might be quite the stupid question to ask really but she didn't know what else she could say.

She knew how exhausted he was and now this... it had to be rough. Very very rough and she only wished she could take some of that off his shoulders.

Darcy had fallen asleep in the back seat, one hand beside Estella in her little car seat from having been trying to entertain her when she'd been fussy from being sleepy, his body slumped against the door and his makeshift pillow which was his jacket. He and Dixon had changed between front seat and back seat often, usually whenever they made a stop.

As soon as Griffith felt Harper's hand on his own, he made sure to grab it for a tight squeeze.

"Hey...yeah, I'm alright, but it's just...weird. It's weird being back here." He admitted with a light nod before he turned to look at her. "It's weird... and a little bit nerve wracking."

"I'm right here if you, you know?" Harper said, kissing his hand gently as she looked at him. "I understand though."

"I know baby...thank you." Griffith gave Harper a light little smile before sighing and reluctantly letting go of her hand so he could climb out of the moving truck.

Harper went to get out too, pulling her hair up after stepping out and let out a slow breath. "Well guys, guess we're home." she murmured quietly, putting a hand to her stomach.

Griffith tucked his hands into his pockets as he strode up to the house, simply taking it in. He hadn't been there in over seven years, and while things looked a bit different and while he was nervous as hell to be back, there was an unmistakable twinge of...happiness.

He gave a small smile and turned to look at Harper over his shoulder.

"Should we head in?" He asked, offering his hand out.

However, it wasn't Harper that spoke first, but rather, Flora as she emerged from the car.

"Dios mio, yes, I'm exhausted." She complained.

Harper paused and looked over, giving a small laugh. "Sorry, Flora. You want me to hold Estella for you?" she offered.

Darcy stirred from the noise, sitting up stiffly. "Ow.. where are we?" he croaked.

"Uff, yes, please." Flora said, going back into the car to retrieve the baby, who she quickly passed off to Harper.

Dixon sat up with a yawn, stiffening due to travel...or due to realizing that they'd made it.

"We're here..." He said.

Harper took Estella and kissed her head gently, coddling her close before heading over to Griffith.

Darcy reached over and squeezed his shoulder before going to open his door to wait for help getting out or at least his wheelchair. He could get out otherwise on his own.

Griffith slung an arm over Harper's shoulders, pulling her and Estella close to his frame. He looked down at his niece all bundled up in Harper's arms and reached over to gently tickle at her lip, which earned a sound of distaste as she moved away from it.

"Ey, don't pitch a fit now. We just got here, kid. What would your dad say if he saw you acting up?" Griff scolded lightly.

Meanwhile, Dixon was almost too caught up in looking at the house he didn't even notice Darcy, however, when he happened to glance over and see his friend waiting, he quickly acted.

"Shit, sorry, man." He said, scrambling to get out of the car. He got out and hurried over to the driver's side of the car, popping open the trunk where Darcy's wheelchair had been stowed for the trip. He pulled it out and set it up before wheeling it over to him. "Didn't mean to leave you hanging." He apologized.

Harper chuckled a little. "She's just woken up, Griff, give her a break." She said, patting Estella's back gently and crooning to her.

Darcy shook his head. "It's alright, Dixie, I was kind've stretching while I waited anyhow." he said, moving so he could help get himself out.

"Fitz don't pitch fits like that." Griffith continued, grinning down at Estella as she her whines turned to quiet simpers and she reached out to grab at Harper's shirt, holding on to her. He chuckled a bit and gently coaxed Harper's shoulder. "Let's check it out, yeah?"

"Mm." Dixon let out a quiet noise of acknowledgement and continued to look back up at the house, holding the chair still for Darcy. "It hasn't really changed, you know?" He said.

"Mhm, lead the way." Harper nodded, cuddling Estella still as she moved to stand beside him.

"Yeah?" Darcy glanced up at his best friend, in concern after getting himself situated in the seat. "...You gonna be alright, Dixie?"

Griffith led Harper up the steps of the front porch, noting to himself he'd have to build Dixon a ramp as soon as possible. He approached the front door, pausing at the new "Welcome" mat his parent's previous legal advisor (the one who'd handled the signing over of the deed to Griffith) must have had left. He stooped down and flipped the mat over, finding a yellow envelope taped to the bottom. He pulled it from the mat and stood back up. There was a "good to have you boys back!" written on it and inside there was the deed to the house itself and the key.

"Can't do this shit anywhere else." He laughed a bit, holding up the envelope to show Harper what it was. He plucked out the key and tucked the deed under his arm before going to unlock the door (which also looked new). He let out a mildly anxious breath as he turned the key in the lock.

"Yeah, I'll be okay I just...I don't know...it's weird." Dixon said, unable to explain. He let out a sigh before glancing down at Darcy. "Let's go check it out though, yeah? We'll have to go through the back, since there's no porch or anything back there." He explained.
