"He's going to be late, Harp." Griffith commented anxiously as he stooped down to finish tying up all the boys' ties, fussing with Digby the most as he tried to lurch back for the sake of not having to wear a tie.
It was a big day in the Fitz home. Coco was due to graduate, with high honors even, making up the last of her siblings to do so. She had grown up well, thanks to Griffith and Harper's efforts, and she was desperate to make them proud by not only graduating at the top of her class, but by also attending college in hopes of becoming a teacher, hopefully graduating at the top of her class then too. She had grown up beautifully, ending up looking more like Estella Fitz than anyone could have ever imagined. She was considerably more petite than the rest of her siblings, barely standing at five-foot-two and couldn't even compare in the slightest to her sister-in-laws in the curves department. However, she had a wonderfully beautiful face with a delicate smile always hosted on full lips, bright blue eyes she had taken to revealing by use of contacts instead of glasses, and blond hair she had taken the time to grow out long. All in all, she had grown up into a fine young woman and Griffith and the rest of the Fitz family couldn't be more pleased.
Dixon came tumbling out of his and Darcy's old bedroom (which had become the guest bedroom) and was struggling to tie his own tie like his little nephews.
"I appreciate you're worried about Darcy, but, really, Griff, I think you should be more worried about Coco. I mean, c'mon, she's been in that bathroom for almost two hours getting ready." He commented, going over to Harper to see if she'd tie his tie for him as Griffith was busy with his boys.
Lowell gave his own whine as he tried to jerk away from Griffith too. "Daaaad..."
Harlow stood still while he waited, playing with his little action figure and mouthing things to himself, not making any noise but practicing his words in his head.
"Darcy isn't going to be late." Harper said, reaching to tie Dixon's tie. "Dixie, you'd think you'd know how to do this by now with how many times we've all gone to church." She said, shaking her head. "Anyhow, Darcy said he'd be here at any time."
And as if like magic, Darcy pulled up at the house and parked and got out quickly, hurrying up to the house. Admittedly, he knew he was running late. Really late but he had only gotten home yesterday from an away-game and he had completely forgotten to set his alarm. He panted as he hurried in, flinging the door open. "M'here, I'm here!"
"Hold still, baby, c'mon." Griff scolded, knotting the tie and straightening up Lowell's shirt collar before patting his shoulder. "You and Dig go sit down and just wait. I don't want you makin' mess on your clothes." He warned, his eyebrows raising before he looked over to Harlow, waving his hand to get his attention before flashing the sign asking him to come over.
"Would you look what the cat dragged in, if it ain't that shitty pitcher Darcy Hunt." Dixon teased as he glanced over Harper's shoulder, watching as Darcy came hustling into the house. "You'd think you knew a thing or two about hustling being on a baseball team."
Harlow grinned at Griff a little and tapped his thumb against his forehead with an open hand, his way of shouting Daddy! before hurrying over to Griffith.
"Pfft, I'm sorry, did I just hear the squabbling of a shitty short stop?" Darcy teased as he looked around the room dramatically with a grin.
Griffith grinned and opened his arms up as Harlow came over to him, smothering him in a firm hug and a series of kisses at his cheeks, blowing several raspberries even before pulling away. He promptly gestured to his tie, as if telling Harlow he was going to tie his tie then.
"Psh, whatever, you were never quick enough to play short stop and you weren't quick enough to geeeet here on time." Dixon continued with the teasing, stepping away from Harper after his tie was knotted. He went over to Darcy and pulled him into a firm hug. "How was your game, man?"
Harlow looked at the gesture and then reached over and touched the knot of Griffith's, looking up at him questioningly, trying to figure out if that's what he meant.
"I'm here on time!" Darcy laughed, hugging him back firmly and giving his back a firm pat. "Great, six to two." He nodded, pulling away to look at him. "How're you, Dixie? I wish you coulda been there."
Griffith smiled and nodded, raising a hand balled into a fist, which he bobbed to sign the confirmation. He then proceeded to pat at his leg, as he was crouched on his haunches, indicating for Harlow to sit down.
"Ah man, me too, but I couldn't miss Coco's award's banquet dinner. She got nine thousand dollars in just local scholarships, man!" Dixon bragged.
Griff grinned, always liking moments when he could hear Harlow's little voice making the tiniest of noises. He proceeded to tie up his tie for him.
Meanwhile, Coco was standing anxiously in the mirror in the upstairs bathroom, tossing her lightly curled hair over her shoulder, only to push it back behind it, conflicted as to how she should be wearing it. She and Harper had gone out to pick out her graduation dress a few weeks ago and while she still loved it, she was also having second guesses about it. It didn't look very formal. Did it have to look formal? She was just going to wear a robe over it.
"Good Lord..." She uttered quietly to herself, clearly nervous, before calling back out to Harper. "I need a whole truckload of it."
Harlow waited until Griffith's motions stilled and then looked up at him, putting his toy down on Griffith's leg and held up both hands towards himself and open before flicking them out with furrowed questioning brows, signifying 'finished?'
"Oh, Coco, honey." Harper frowned. "Open the door and let me see."
Harlow gave a little giggle, grinning widely and squinting his eyes up at him and scrunching his nose at Griffith, putting his own hands on Griffith's.
"Coco, sweetheart, you look gorgeous. The dress fits you perfectly and it's perfect." Harper tried to reassure, going to step into the bathroom. "I'll fix your hair for you okay? And then we really need to hurry out."
Griffith chuckled and scrunched his own face up, shaking his head playfully at Harlow.
"Why?" Coco's eyes widened. "Oh my god, what time is it? Are we late? Did Darcy ever get here? Oh my god, am I going to miss my speech?" She sputtered.
Harlow smiled at him before pulling his hands away, pointing at himself and then crossed his arms before pointing at Griffith and then opening his palm and putting his thumb against his forehead, saying he loved him.
"No, honey, no. Yes, he's downstairs." Harper reassured, putting Tessa down and then ushered Coco to turn her back to her, so she could quickly fix her hair. "I'm just saying, if we want to get there at a good time, we need to leave soon since we still have to get everyone loaded up."[/i]
Griff grinned broadly and reciprocated the "I love you", leaning over to smoosh one more kiss to Harlow's cheek. He grabbed up Harlow's toy and handed it back to him before standing up, offering his hand for Harlow to hold.
Coco turned as she was instructed and uttered out a quiet, "Okay, alright." She was desperate to relax herself.
