((From Fitz Residence.))
Harper, Griffith and Coco had all arrived at the hospital without further drama, other than Harper's persistent shouting from being in total and complete pain though she tried her hardest to focus on breathing and trying to NOT scream for poor Coco's sake.
They had already moved Harper into a maternity room and for the moment, her Doctor was trying to decide what was the best thing to do. Of course, a c-section had originally been the expected and planned thing to do, as it was the usual with twins but now things were looking different.
The babies were moving fast to get out, so fast they weren't even allowing time for an epidural, which Harper practically begged for even though she had originally wanted a natural birth and it looked like one might even be a breech baby.
At some point, the boys and Flora had been contacted to tell them it was show time and what fresh hell had happened at home. The boys had come up at some point while Griffith went to talk to Flora, who was in the waiting room and they were all really taking turns to see Harper since only so many people were allowed in the room at once.
And now was just the extremely literally agonizing wait time to find out what their next move was and what was going to have to happen.
Griffith had sent Coco to stay with Flora and Estella in the waiting room and was probably going to have to send the boys back down as well so he and Harper could meet with the doctor soon to determine what the plan of attack was.
He came back to the room and found Dixon pacing anxiously beside the bed, trying not to look as a doctor had positioned himself between Harper's legs and was "feeling things out".
The doctor glanced upon Griffith's entering.
"Oh, good, you're back." He nodded, removing himself from his perch. He took off his gloves and tossed them before going to shake Griffith's hand. "I'm Doctor Yantz, I'll be handling everything from here on out." He explained.
Darcy frowned as he looked between them all from his spot beside Harper's bed, holding her hand tightly and letting her squeeze as tightly as she needed, whenever she needed.
Harper took a deep breath and opened her eyes to look over Griffith, tears still welt up in her eyes.
"Well, I've got some good news, and a little bit of bad news, alright?" The doctor began, which made Griffith's face pale. "The good news is that your babies are perfectly healthy and developed. They should be able to survive outside of the womb at this juncture with no problems."
Griff and Dixon both let out simultaneous sighs of relief.
"The bad news is...they're so far down the birth canal and Harper, you're so dilated, just about nine centimeters in fact, that c-section now isn't really an option. You're going to have to do this naturally." The doctor frowned. "Also, our fears of one of your baby's being breech is justified. It looks like baby b is going to be born bottom first."
"There are definitely risks, yes, but we're out of options right now." The doctor sighed, biting his lip as he looked to Harper. "Rest assured though, we have a supreme medical staff, and I promise we'll make sure both babies are delivered safely, along with yourself, Miss Hunt." The doctor tried to assure with a nod.
Griffith reached up to scrub anxiously at his face before going to stand by Harper's bedside.
"H-How much longer do we have until then?" He asked, worried for Harper even more than before.
"I'm going to start collecting staff now, getting everything prepped. I'm sorry, but I need the room cleared except for you, Mom and Dad." Doctor Yantz explained.
Darcy's face looked even more pinched with anxiety at that. He managed to get himself standing and reached over to kiss Harper's temple and murmured to her for a moment, getting a little nod in response before lowering himself back into his wheelchair and went to start out of the room.
Harper gave a little hiccup with a wince, putting a hand to her stomach.
Dixon walked over to Harper's bedside and gave her a swift little peck to the top of her head as well, offering his assurances and thoughts before moving to help push Darcy out of the room. Shortly there in after, the doctor excused himself to do what he'd explained he would do, leaving Harper and Griffith alone. As soon as they were, Griffith sank onto Harper's bedside, leaning back with her while wrapping one arm around her shoulders and reaching to rest his other hand atop hers on her stomach, twining his fingers for her to squeeze.
"I'm sorry, baby...I'm sorry it's happening like this." He whispered to her, kissing at her temple as he laid beside her. "B-But if anyone can do it, I...I think it's you."
Harper shook her head with a little whimper, sniffling. "I-I just want them out, safe an-and I want out of p-pain, j-jesus, i-it hurts." She said, reaching up with the hand on her stomach, which had a tissue tucked into it that a nurse had given her and wiped at her eyes.
Griffith pressed his lip tight together as he looked down at Harper. He felt absolutely horrible. This was never part of their plan.
"I know, baby, but soon, alright? Soon it'll be all done and we'll have our little ones, see who's been causing all that fuss." Griffith tried to smile, gently rubbing at her belly. "And I know it's not much, but I'll be here through the whole thing."
Harper gave a very tiny laugh before it turned into a sharp gasp and she squeezed down hard on Griffith's hand, putting her other hand over her eyes as she took a trembling deep breath, trying to focus on the sound of Griffith's breathing and just him in general. "Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck.."
Griff allowed Harper to clamp down on his hand while he tried to coach her in her breathing, easing in words of encouragement every so often.
While Harper rode out her contractions, Doctor Yantz returned with several other staff members, most of whom where already in smocks. A nurse wheeled in a cart full of instruments and parked it right at the foot of the bed beside the doctor's perch, which, he was already sitting in.
"Hey, Harper, how are we doing?" He asked, waiting patiently for her reply.
Another nurse stood waiting by Griffith, waiting for Harper to release his hand so he could get dressed in his own smock.
"Fantastic, doc." Harper answered, voice trembling. She wasn't trying to be sarcastic but at that moment she couldn't fathom a rational way to explain how she felt. She very reluctantly let Griffith's hand go when she realized why the nurse was waiting.
"I know labor isn't great, especially in this case, but you're handling it like a champ." The doctor tried to offer before he checked her out one last time. "But it looks like it's just about over, Harper. You are ready to go on the next contraction." The doctor nodded.
Griffith had briefly been pulled away to get situated in a smock, which, as soon as he was set, he moved back to Harper's bedside, taking a seat in a stool instead as he offered his hand out to Harper.
The nurses and doctor moved the room around some, getting ready, and eventually, the doctor poised himself between Harper's legs again and nodded.
"Next contraction, Harper, you give me the best push you can manage."
After a long and very very painful labour, both babies were born safe and healthy as could be. Of course, 'baby b' gave the most trouble getting out because of being a breech baby and THAT was the most excruciating pain Harper thought she could ever experience.
Harper heard the shrill cries from her babies as she gasped for breath, opening her eyes and seeing the lights around the room blurr. She was so fucking exhausted and she felt so weak. She wanted to ask if the babies were okay but her ears were ringing now and she was having a hard time staying conscious.
