Estella maintained a smile, though she was gearing herself up to make the announcement of what would soon be the newest addition to her and Ian’s little family. She was sure it would catch everyone, including Ian, off guard, but she was also sure that everyone would be pleased at the end of the day, after all, she and Ian were more than just making it work for them.
They both were employed, they were well on their way to paying off their little trailer, and between them and Finn, everyone was happy and that’s what mattered most. Surely, they were in a good place to add one more baby, and if they were anything like Finn, they’d be a good addition.
“Thank you, Mama, Luis, Grandma Harriet for coming. We’re really happy you all get to have dinner with us.” Estella smiled.
“Of course, my love. We’re happy to come always.” Flora smiled back.
Estella was cut off when Finn let out a high pitched squeal of a whine and stretched in his chair towards the food on the table. Estella laughed a little and sighed, deciding to forego a formal announcement as she took out the bin she’d put in her pocket before and handed it towards Ian.
“Can you put this on him? I’ll get his food.” She said, trying not to smile.
Ian took it without looking at first and nodded, turning to Finn to get the bib on. "Awh lil man, no fussing." he crooned, putting it on him and then smoothing it out, his eyes briefly going over the words since they weren't familiar. "A big brothers gotta behave at the tab-what." he whipped around to stare at Estella.
Flora, upon hearing Ian, turned quickly as well. Meanwhile, Estella was still biting back a smile as she made up Finn’s bowl, trying to act like it was nothing.
"Estella?" Ian sputtered while Harriet slowly smiled big and went to lean to her grandson to fuss over him. "You're pregnant?!" he asked, getting up to go to her.
Luis looked surprised, turning to look at Estella as well.
It had been several peaceful years for Ian and Estella. Finny boy had just celebrated his ninth birthday and was sprouting up like a beanstalk, threatening to be as big as his father but he had the soft features of his mother. Ian still worked at the family shop, helping Griff out more and more as Griff got older.
Ian was quite the family man, always making sure he got home in time to sit at the dinner table with his wife and kids. He was always there for any school things for the kids, always helping Finn out with homework and taking what time he could to take Estella out on dates or just even a trip to the grocery store just them two so she could have a break.
Life was good, it was crazy loud and busy with all their kids but Ian would have it no other way and it didn't seem like there was any plans to slow down, with Estella baking up another kid already. But life was good.
Ian had stopped by the grocery store on his way home to pick up Estella's most recent craving and some ingredients she had texted and said they needed for dinner. He was covered in the usual oil and smudges but it was obvious he had done his best to clean up before heading out.
He unlocked the door, lunch bag and grocery supplies on one arm as he headed in. "I'm home!" he called.
In the early days of their relationship, Estella and Ian had had to weather a great many troubles. Sometimes, in the hardest of moments, Estella didn't know if they could get through it, but all these years later, she was grateful they had toughed it out. She was even more grateful that their life now was so much more peaceful in comparison.
After Finn, their oldest child, had turned two, Estella and Ian had managed to get a little place of their own not too far from her mama and her then-boyfriend-now-husband Luis. It had been nice building a life of their own, it was nicer knowing that they had family around, some even just a few blocks away when they needed anything.
In the years that had passed, they had added to their family, another son and a little girl, and had another baby on the way. Since their kids were all so young still, Estella mostly stayed home with them, but also sometimes helped with the bookkeeping at the shop, learning whatever she could on the back end of things from her uncle so he could, in theory, retire soon and leave the shop to she and Ian. Now that she was further along in her pregnancy, however, her time at the shop was less while her time at home resting in bed was more.
She was currently resting in the little day bed set up in the nursery, having been putting together the little things in preparation for their babe, even though they weren't due for some time still. Her eyes were closed as she leaned back on the bed, hands rubbing her stomach while she listened to her little girl playing in the adjacent living room. She looked like the picture of contentment.
Magdalene, Estella and Ian's (current) youngest was sitting on the floor in the corner of the living room where her parents had set up a little play area of sorts. She was in the middle of wrestling on a dress onto one of her baby dolls when she heard Ian announce his arrival home and she quickly abandoned the task, leaping to her feet and hurrying towards the entry hallway.
"Pa, Pa, Pa, Pa!" She chirped excitedly.
Much like how Finn was Ian's carbon copy, Magdalene was Estella's. She had her mom's round doe eyes and dark, wavy hair, which was currently pinned up in her trademark baby buns on either side of her head. She squealed and threw her arms up as she ran towards Ian, practically throwing herself onto his leg to latch onto.
"Pa, I missed you! Come play! Please, please!" She bounced against him.
"Hello my little Mags." Ian greeted his daughter warmly. "Let Pa put up the cold stuff and clean up from work first and then I'll come play, okay? Pa's icky ick."
Estella smiled softly to herself as she listened to Magdalene squeal in delight and totter off to go wait for Ian, presumably. She opened her eyes and rocked herself to get upright, hand still rested on her middle.
"My love, did you pick up those potatoes?" She called out.
"I did, Mama." Ian called back, putting things away in the fridge before going to head to the nursery. "I also got the Chorizo. And I got you some of your ice cream and hot fries."
