"I wouldn't have l-left you." He managed, voice full of hurt and even a bit of bitterness. "You know I would have st-stayed with you...we would h-have worked it out." |

As soon as Dana looked away, Dixon was filled with regret for what he'd said, though, he was full of guilt in many other ways as well. He sniffled and reached down again to wipe at Dixie's face and crooning at her briefly before looking up at Dana again.
"Dana...baby...I can-can't take back what I did...I messed up, a-and believe me...I will never ever stop hating myself for w-what I did, b-but don't think for one minute that I s-stopped loving you for one second." Dixon said to her then. "I-I want to work it out, I w-will always want to work it out, b-but if you don't want me...I can't make you want me. S-so...if this is you saying y-you can't...you won't t-take me back, y-you won't work it out with me...that's...that's okay. I just..." He stopped, realizing there was no point in carrying on. Instead, he gave a shaky breath. "I love you, D...I love you with all of my heart, j-just remember that." |

| Dana gave a slight sob, biting her bottom lip hard to try and stifle it, aware people were staring. "D-dixon, I love you t-too bu... but I c-can't.. I-I don't want to b-be hurt anymore." |

Dixon closed his eyes tight, biting at his lip. He gave a little nod.
"O...okay." Dixon said quietly, his jaw quivering. "I'll...I...I'm gonna go then...I won't..." I won't hurt you anymore then. "I'll leave." |

Dixon's heart twisted even further when he heard Dixie sobbing for him. He looked down at her and wiped at her face with a free hand.
"I'm s-sorry, baby girl. I'm sorry for hurting you like this." He murmured to her before leaning down to kiss at her forehead. "Baby...I think you need to stay with Momma tonight, okay? S-she's gonna need you." Dixon said, unable to stop his tears from rolling down his cheeks as he looked down at Dixie. "Y-your dad is sorry...I'm sorry...I'm so sorry...I love you, honeybee." |

Dixie wailed, rubbing her fists against her eyes and not at all understanding and only understanding that she wouldn't get to see her Daddy tonight after she was promised she would.
Dana took a few trembling breaths, trying to get a hold of herself to just think. |

Dixon looked up at Dana, noting her obvious distress, and then looked around the diner, watching everyone watching them. He bit at his lip before standing up, looking away from Dana then.
"I-I'll take her out...calm her down." he said quietly. |

Dixon bounced Dixie in his arms lightly as they went outside. He began pacing out by Dana's car, sniveling and trying to croon his assurances that everything would be okay to Dixie and her unrelenting crying.
"B-baby girl it's going to be okay...you're going to see D-Daddy again. Maybe next time I can...we can go swimming, hmm? At the park pool you like? A-and we'll play and play and play." He tried to persuade her. |
