"Why did I have to come along with you for grocery shopping, Harper?" Darcy groaned, reluctantly following his sister into the store as she grabbed a cart.

"Because, Darcy," Harper started in a matter-of-factly voice, turning to stare at him. "You need to pick out your lunches for school and I am not going to go through an argument every time I pick out something you don't like."

"It's not an argument, I just try to tell you for next time and you never remember." Darcy frowned, fixing his glasses.

"March." Harper pushed him forward by his shoulder gently before going to head for an aisle, peering at the list she had in her hand for Harriet and the house in general.

"Fine, fine." Darcy muttered and went off his own separate way to get things for school lunches and kill time while he waited for his sister to get done. It definitely wasn't one of his most favorite chores to do.

Harper frowned at Harriet's small cursive writing, squinting at it as she headed down a random aisle, not at all watching where she was going.

"Not entirely sure why we have to be in charge of errands, it's not like Lawson is back at work yet and Flora certainly doesn't have much to do since she's quit working." Griff grumbled to himself as he pushed his cart into the store, eyeballing the list of items his sister-in-law scrawled out on a napkin with a small stain of red from her lipstick in the corner.

He and Dixon had driving around all afternoon paying bills, picking up odds and ends for the house (squeezing in a trip to the comic book store as a treat with Lawson's card), and now they were wrapping up their outing with a trip to the grocery store, which, given Griffith's whining and his slumped posture, one could easily tell this was not his favorite task.

"I don't see what the big deal is. Flora made us a list, all we have to do is grab whatever's on it." Dixon said as he strode into the store alongside his brother.

Dixon had tried to stay home so he could help out around the house, since Lawson was still out of commission and Flora was getting bigger and bigger, but Lawson insisted he go, mostly to keep an eye on Griff. He'd been told specifically to make sure Griff didn't buy any more "unecessaries" like last time (several new parts for his bike, two packages of Oreos, and a brand new baseball bat). Being the youngest, Dixon thought it was a bit strange he had to look out for either of his brothers, but it was what it was, and he WAS walking around the grocery store.

"All I'm saying is Lawson has been way more dinged up before and yet he's been laid up for days now. More than that, Flora don't gotta dote on him like she does. They're having a baby, in a few months she can just dote on the kid." Griff explained, rustling a hand through his hair. He paused just long enough to stand up straight and rip the list in half. "Listen, I just wanna go home, so you go grab the stuff on your half of the list and I'll get the rest, okay?" He thrust the ripped napkin to his brother, who, with lips pursed with irritation, took it.

"Fine." He conceded before eyeing the list. "I'll find you when I'm done." He said, turning around to go look for his items.

Meanwhile, Griff heaved another sign and went back to leaning on the hand railing of his cart, bitterly pressing on.

Darcy shoved his things into the basket he had, heading off to the small book aisle that existed in the store, swinging the basket by its handles in his hand as he did, humming.

He was actually in a good mood despite being dragged off to the store and so forth. Kasper had been doing a little better lately and Harriet had taught him a bunch of new recipes.

Harper sighed as she turned the paper every different direction, feeling a flush rising on her cheeks. Darcy had been, ironically, harping on her to find a cheap pair of reading glasses at least and maybe... maybe she would today, if she could splurge the money for it.

But she really didn't want anyone from an opposing gang to know her eyesight wasn't exactly perfect.

She pursed her lips in frustration as she pushed the cart just out of the aisle to turn, not looking again. "This is so stupid, Harriet needs to write in bigger letters. Or learn a new font." she said bitterly to herself.

Griffith was eyeballing a bag of cheetos on an endcap ahead, which was practically beckoning him by name, when he ran his cart directly into someone else's, causing a loud crash and rattling from the carts and their contents. Before he could even look to see the other "driver" of the cart, he instantaneously began spouting apologies. Just because he and his brother were involved with a gang didn't mean their mama didn't raise them right.

"Christ, I'm so sorry, I wasn't even paying attention." He spluttered.

Meanwhile, Dixon was cutting through the paper section of the grocery store, heading over to the dairy aisle when he spotted a familiar figure, which brought a quick and bright smile to his face.

"Darce!" He called out, recognizing the other bespectacled boy from down the aisle.

Harper blinked in a startled manner, grabbing onto the list quickly to not drop it and went to push her hair out of her face quickly. "No no, I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying attention, I should've looked before I moved out of the aisle, I'm so sorry." She said in a quiet manner with a slightly anxious laugh as she quickly pulled her cart away to untangle them before looking up and spotting just who it was.

Darcy blinked when he heard the familiar voice and his nickname, looking up from the book he had grabbed and over towards the source of it. His face broke into a bright grin and he went to put the book down quickly and head over to him. "Dix!"

As Griff pulled his cart away, he looked up as well and his face instantly twisted into an expression of disgust.

"Good God, I just can't get away from you, can I?" He spat, his mood clearly diminished. Part of him wondered if this was going to boil down to a fight. THat would truly destroy his mood.

---

"Hey hey hey! What's up!" Dixon grinned, meeting Darcy in the middle of the aisle and reaching his hand out for a rather intricate handshake the twosome had developed in the last week.

Since having met up at the library, the duo had become rather close. At school now, it wasn't often you'd see one without the other.

Harper's face when steely again and she twisted her lips into a disgruntled purse. "Look." She said firmly. "Lets not start this here. This is neutral grounds on family friendly property. We're getting food. You're getting food. I'll go this way and you go wherever the hell you need to."

---

Darcy returned the handshake with ease and a wide grin. "Hey! Shopping with my sister, you? I mean. Other than the obvious." he laughed.

"Who said anything about causing trouble? I'm just here to get some," Griff paused and looked down at his list, grimacing when he realized everything on there was meant for his sister-in-law's ethnic cooking. "I'm just here for some pork all paster, okay?" He said, completely slaughtering the pronunciation.

---

"Shopping with my brother. He's pretty much hopeless without me." Dixon rolled his eyes with a laugh.

"Por.." Harper looked confused, tapping the ball of her tongue piercing against her lower teeth slightly. "Pork al pastor." she said finally before shaking her head and went to back up to turn her cart around and leave the other way.

--

"Oh." Darcy laughed, shaking his head. "My sister thinks I need to get out and socialize more."

"Whatever, to-may-to, to-mah-to, same difference." Griff rolled his eyes before pressing on, going around to another aisle as to avoid Harper. He was definitely not her biggest fan by any means.

---

"Psh, she just doesn't know that you've got rad friends already, that's all." Dixon said, grinning at his own self-dished compliment.

Harper shook her head and rolled her shoulders, trying to forget about ever running into him. She let out a sigh and finally managed to read some things on the list.

She grabbed them up, all the while managing to avoid Griffith like he had the plague and headed off to get fried onion topping for a casserole or something that Harriet wanted to make and glared up at the top shelf.

"Great. Just great." she huffed and pushed her hair out of her face again before going to put a foot on the bottom shelf and try to heft herself up just enough to at least knock a box down.

---

"Nice, Dix." Darcy smirked, shaking his head at him slightly. "I'm done getting stuff she told me to get so.. mind if I join you walking around?"

Griffith had managed to grab a few things from the list, almost all of it having been in the ethnic section of the store. He was cruising down another aisle, hoping to grab some canned veggies for his mom's famous vegetable stew, which thankfully Lawson still knew how to make, when he found Harper struggling for something on a top shelf. He was almost tempted to turn around and go the other way, however, after watching her struggle to reach the shelf, he decided it wasn't right. It was like watching a sad (short) orphan starve or something.

With a sigh, he approached her, stopping right behind her to reach over her, grabbing the fried onion package. He offered it down to her.

"Here." He said.

---

"Of course! C'mon, we should get a cart, maybe one of those ones with the car bit in front, you know what I'm talking about?" Dixon grinned.

Harper made a startled noise and turned around quickly, almost toppling over as she did. She caught herself by grabbing onto his shirt sleeve and blinked. "...Uh. Thanks." she quickly let go and went to grab for the box.

--

"Dude, YES." Darcy grinned back, nodding quickly.

Griff made a slight face as Harper grabbed onto his sleeve, partially because he didn't particularly like being touched, partially because it was Harper doing the touching. When she released his sleeve, he practically tossed the box into her awaiting hands.

"You're welcome. You should probably, like, invest in heels or elevator shoes, or somethin'." He said as he eyed Harper's small stature. "Maybe a ladder" He added.

---

"Holy crap, I'm glad you're game!" Dixon said before he turned and high tailed it towards the front of the store where the cart corral was. Luckily, there was one of the aforementioned carts left. "YES! Darce! Get in, we're going shopping!"

Harper flushed heavily and turned sharply for her cart, tossing the box in with force. "Whatever." she said lamely, feeling her anxiety spike. She hated being in public places as was, especially since she hated being humiliated or ridiculed.

--

Darcy gave an excited laugh and climbed into the small "car" part of the cart, having to sit in it side ways because of his legs. "ONWARDS!"
